Dear Retired United Teachers of Northport:
Youth Directions & Alternatives (YDA) is a private non-profit 50103 community and youth agency that serves participants aged 11 to 21 in the Northport/East Northport, Elwood and Harborfields School Districts. YDA was established n 1912 in order to provide comprehensive services to youth through an accessible neighborhood based agency. ln 2A16, we seryed over 2,500 different adolescents.
YDA’s East Northport office has been located at 7 Diane Court since 1973 and offers convenient pro$amming space to youth within walking distance from East Northport Middle School. In June of 2016, YDA opened a Northport location 324 Main Street in the building previously occupied by The Place and were greeted with open arms by the community. It is YDA’s mission to continue in the tradition of providing grassroots services to community youth through a variety of ways including, but not limited to, drug and alcohol counseling, artlmusic education and recreationaUcultural progamming. Youth have come to know YDA as a welcoming space that fosters self-expression in a judgment free zone. YDA functions as a “community living room” representing a place that participants often call their ‘osecond home.” YDA is proud of this distinction and we look forward to continuing to serve the community in our three unique and inviting spaces!
YDA is looking to increase the number of after school enrichment opporrunities for youth but we need your help! V/ithin our Northport location, we have dedicated spaces for music, art, literature and writing. We are seeking volunteers who would like to share their talent and expertise in these areas. In addition, thanks to the generosity of the neighboring churches, both Northport and East Northport locations have access to community rooms to accommodate larger events.
