Retired Dickinson Avenue teacher Sharon Colburn has shared with us that her daughter, Emily (Emily Barth NHS Class of 1993) is going through a rough time with her family. Emily’s husband Ben was recently diagnosed with a life-threatening cancer, Multiple Myeloma, putting a severe stain on the the family with three young children. Ben is unable to work and is making twice weekly trips from their home in Maine to Dana-Farber in Boston. A fund has been established to help the family with medical expenses, transportation expenses for treatment, and to help cover the loss of Ben’s income. The fund raising appeal can be found at fundly.com/ben-s-fight. Anything you can do to help will be greatly appreciated.
Community Action
The Community Action Committee is a service committee that endeavors to connect R-UTN members with volunteer organizations, worthy local charities, and group “field trips.”
CAC Meeting to be re-scheduled …
Because of weather and travel conditions the R-UTN Community Action Committee meeting scheduled for Thursday has been postponed. A new date for the meeting will be announced soon.
Help Homeless Vets …
The Community Action Committee is requesting donations to help homeless veterans move into housing. Funds will be used to buy household items such as linens, dishes, etc. Many homeless veterans and their families have little more than the clothes on their backs, and donations can help them turn a house into a home.
Make checks out to Northport VA medical Center and write Homeless Veterans Fund on the memo line. Bring donations to the luncheon on Nov 19th, or mail them directly to:
